Cogeneration (CHP) units

Improving the Performance of Gas Engines by using In-cylinder Visualization system

Overview

We are working on new product development by using a high-speed camera to understand combustion inside the engine.

Features

In conventional engine development, high performance has been achieved by measuring pressure changes in the cylinder and understanding the combustion state indirectly and macroscopically.
However, for further performance improvement, local information obtained by direct observation of the flame is considered necessary. Therefore, we have constructed a visualization system to capture high-speed images of combustion occurring inside the cylinder and analyze the images. This has enabled us to find a direction for combustion improvement. In the future, we will challenge the observation of abnormal combustion (knocking) and aim to improve the efficiency, environmental friendliness, and added value of cogeneration.

Future Plans

The visualization system is used to find the direction of combustion improvement and to develop engines with excellent environmental characteristics.
