Biogas
Development of Technology to Increase Biogas Using Waste Bioplastic
Overview
Aiming for a bioplastic and energy recycling society, Osaka Gas is engaged in the development of technology to convert waste bioplastic hydrolyzate into biogas.
Purpose
By developing technology to utilize waste bioplastic and convert its hydrolyzate into biogas, Osaka Gas aims to establish environmentally friendly recycling technologies and achieve carbon neutrality in energy.
Action of Osaka Gas
Osaka Gas is working on the development of the following two technologies:
1. Development of Hydrolysis Treatment Technology for Waste Bioplastic
Technology is being developed to hydrolyze waste bioplastic (polylactic acid) into a decomposed substance mainly composed of lactic acid.
2. Biogas Production Using Waste Bioplastic Hydrolyzate
Technology is being developed to increase the amount of biogas by feeding the decomposed substance into a methane fermentation tank (digester).
Furthermore, by combining this process with biomethanation, more methane, which is a raw material for city gas, can be obtained (※ 1).
